Bombay Clubs & Organizations National Bombay Breed Rescue http://purebredcatbreedrescue.org/bombay.htm Bombay History Nikki Horner, a Louisville, Kentucky resident can be thanked for producing the Bombay breed. Horner believed that the perfect black cat could be compared to that of a "miniature black panther". Her objective was to produce a new breed of cat by joining together a sable Burmese with an all black American Shorthair. She tried relentlessly in the 1950's to create the breed she envisioned, but kept coming up short. Frusterated by not seeing the results she anticipated, Horner began experimenting with diverse breeds to see if she could produce her vision. She was trying to produce a cat with high-quality muscular growth and an extremely short, black coat. It took years and years for the innovative breed to be renowned and acknowledged. In 1976 the CFA finally acknowledged the Bombay for championship.
