Snowshoe History
The Snowshoe cat is a crossbreed that was formed as a deviation from its Siamese parents. The history of the Snowshoe is believed to have started in 1960 when a women named Dorothy Hinds Daugherty found three Siamese kittens in Kensing Cattery, Philadelphia, PA. All four of the kittens had four white feet which led to the fitting name the Snowshoe. Even though the variation did not take place consistantly, Dorothy was fond of the distinction linking the color of the cat and the cats white feet together. Thus she urbanized the first Snowshoe line by combining her Siamese cat with a bicolor American Shorthair. Persistent reproduction ultimately shaped the well-liked 'V' face of the present Snowshoe.
