Gynecomastia Surgery

Gynecomastia Surgery information guide. The topic of "gynecomastia surgery" is discussed in this article. Gynecomastia is a medical condition known as "Man Breasts" or "Man Boobs". Gynecomastia can be caused by being either being over weight and from a condition in men that is caused by a hormone imbalance. 50 percent of pubescent boys will develop gynecomastia. Weightlifters can develope gynecomastia from steroid or supplement use.

The condition of gynecomastia can be caused by a hormonal imbalance where the body produces too much estrogen and not enough testosterone. To determine if your "male breasts" are from a hormonal imbalance and not just from being overweight, you should see a doctor and they may give you antiestrogen treatment to correct the imbalance if that is is the case.

You can't choose to lose weight on one part of your body. Gynecomastia can be treated by lowering your body fat with a diet plan and exercise plan, or have them reduced with male breast reduction surgey. See the article "How to Get Rid of Man Boobs" for more information.

Besides a hormaonal imbalance or being overweight, gynecomastia in teens can be caused by steroid use, alcohol and street drugs like marijuana, heroin and amphetamines. Certain topical plant oils used in personal care products sometimes contribute to gynecomastia, mostly tea tree oil and lavender oil.

Gynecomastia Surgery Information

When diet and excercise have been tried and it was unsuccessfull in reducing their man boobs, some men have considered undergoing gynecomastia surgery. A Male Breast Reduction procedure is performed by Gynecomastia Surgeons to remove the fat in the chest and flatten the male breasts. Gynecomastia surgery is a serious procedure with serious risks that should be considered. Be sure you are aware of all the risks before undergoing gynecomastia surgery.

The two methods for performing a male breast reduction are:
  • liposuction
  • excision
Liposuction is ideal for male breast reductions because fat is soft and is easily removed with a liposuction instrument (much like a small vacuum.) The firmer and glandular gynecomastia tissue cannot be removed by liposuction. It is removed by excision (cutting it out). Also see the article "Male Breast Reduction"
